Sailing Into Headwinds
Nancy is devastated at the loss of her beloved Joe, the love of her life, in a questionable car accident. A year later Joe’s last words still haunt her, “no accident, Cocos and call JD.” One day while clearing out the attic, she finds clues to this mystery. A cardboard box marked “Cocos”, a safe and the inscriptions on the safe, “JD”. Tracking down JD, James Dickson, in an old address book of Joe’s. Nancy and James are thrown together wanting to fulfill Joe’s last wishes. They get swept up by a treasure map left to Joe by his Aunt Mary’s that leads to Devonshire treasure. This adventure takes Nancy and James across the ocean to a deserted island and into the unknown. The only snag is Derek isn’t far behind and is ready to do anything to get his hand on the treasure first.
Introduction
My husband, Daniel, and I sail the oceans for five years. Traveling to places where dreams are made. In the 22,000 nautical miles we travel there was one place that truly captured our souls, “Cocos Island”. As Jacques Cousteau once said “Cocos Island is the most beautiful island in the world” and he was right. The splendor of this island is unsurpassed. But it’s the tails of pirates and treasures attached to this island that’s enough to invoke fantasies of riches. There were many pirates that were presumed to used Cocos to hind their bounties but it was the story of Captain Bennett Grahame and Mary Welch, that captured my imagination and carried me to writing this book. A little side note: the Devonshire treasure has never been found.
Journey Into Courage
Having to make a sudden life changing decision, and intuitively driven to follow her dreams, this young woman leaves the United States and travels halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. In this new land, she wrestles against loneliness and fear and soon finds her inner courage. Fate would lead her into a chance meeting of a Frenchman with whom she falls in love and her life yet again takes another direction when she follows him to New Caledonia, a French Territory in the South Pacific, and adopts a new culture and language. But her biggest challenge is yet to come. The Frenchman is about to embark on an open-ended adventurous voyage to sail around the world and her company is requested. Never questioning the magnitude of the commitment, she is eager to take the plunge and jumps on board his forty-foot aluminum sailboat “Djenah II”. For five long years, they sail across the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, where they encounter life-threatening challenges, experience nature up-close and bathe in the natural beauty of marine life. Throughout their voyage, they visit a myriad of small islands and atolls, face numerous testing trials, and learn to instinctively rely on each other for survival. In the process of logging up over twenty-two thousand nautical miles, their love for each other carry them through the most exciting adventure of a lifetime.
